You want to create a masterpiece. Can't get anything right without a reference.

Ok. So you get one and when you've flattened the image, you realise there's no overall flow no atmosphere no mood. To top it up, it's a handdrawn photomanipulation.

Now you draw a scene that you just 'see' in your head and you end up with two dozen technical mistakes.

This picture is just one such case.

Primary aim: lighting and atmosphere. Anything else is second priority. Apparently you can't do lighting without a ref of some kind. And look where my stubborness got me.
